"Happy Thanksgiving!"
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at My Table and SideDish!
We hope you not only have a great holiday with friends and family, but that the food and wine on your table warm your hearts as well as satisfy your hunger. And as my Louisiana friends would say, “hope you don’t ‘huuurt’ yourself.”
If you have time this weekend, send us an email and let us know how we’re doing. We always value your feedback on what you like, don’t like, and want to see. Email me directly at randy.mccrea@my-table.com
Many thanks.

A La Carte
"Heard over breakfast ..."
- Kim Son is opening a location on Washington. It should be open soon.
- Doubletree Hotel has added live jazz nights on Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m. Don’t miss the free appetizers during happy hour, 4:30 to 6:30 pm
- Nick Zotos has joined Brothers Produce as account manager. He was the former chef for Smith & Wollensky in Houston before taking a position in Atlanta, and is now back in town.
- Second annual Bayou City Farmers’ Market Citrus Fest is being held December 9 and 16. The event will be located at 3000 Richmond at Eastside (between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway) in the back parking lot and will run each day from 8 a.m. to noon. It is being hosted by Urban Harvest and Bayou City Farmers’ Market.
The event will celebrate the peak of the citrus season in the Houston area and will feature many varieties of locally-grown citrus fruit,
including oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, satsumas, kumquats, limequats, limes, Meyer
lemons, and other unusual citrus varieties that are not available in stores. This freshly
picked fruit will be available for buying and tasting.
Also, “Citrus Professors” will be on hand to give information on how to grow your own citrus. Many varieties grow well in this area and are well-suited to backyard planting. Urban Harvest’s annual Fruit Tree Sale, to be held on January 20, 2007 will have many of these locally-suited trees available for sale, so the Citrus Festival offers the opportunity to check out the different types of fruit that can be grown.
- Like limericks? My Table and Red Lion are co-sponsoring our first ever limerick contest. Send us your original food or drink limerick and perhaps win dinner and Guinness stout for four.

- Ring in the holidays this year by taking a roadtrip to one of Texas’ Christmas tree farms. Select your own tree and start your own holiday tradition. For more information, click on trees and scroll down.
My Recipe
"Pumpkin Seed Creme Brulee"
Ingredients, serves 4 – 6
1 qt Heavy Cream
¾ cup Sugar
1 tbls Vanilla Bean Paste
1 cup Egg Yolks
1 cup Pumpkin Seeds, toasted and ground
Procedure
Toast pumpkin seeds. Allow to cool, then place into a robot coupe to grind. Reserve. Bring cream to a boil. Remove from heat and add pumpkin seeds. Allow to steep until cream is cooled slightly (about 20 min). In a mixing bowl, combine egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla. Strain the pumpkin seeds from the cream and temper into the yolk mixture. Portion into the desired molds and bake at 250 degrees in a water bath until set (about 3 to 4 hours).

"Wine Paradigm Shifts"
Here are some suggestions to transform your holiday wine drinking into something new and exciting!
- Pinot Noir—try a red Burgundy from France; a raspberry/strawberry charmer from Oregon or California’s Russian River Valley or Central Coast; or a Texas medal winner from Peregrine Hill or Pheasant Ridge
- Viognier—this white wine is lush with tropical fruits and creamy softness; try one from Texas, say from Driftwood Vineyards, Mandola Winery, Fall Creek, or Becker Vineyards
- Want another red? Try a top quality Tempranillo from Spain (especially great with dark meat) or Spicewood Vineyard’s Cabernet Franc from Texas
- Want spice? Enjoy a Gewurztraminer from Alsace in France, Germany or Austria
- More white? Experiment with an Albarino from Spain; much like Viognier, but with an acidic zing
- Bubblies? Ask your wine merchant for a terrific sparkling wine or champagne, like the reasonably priced Duval-Leroy from France and Gruet Brut from New Mexico
