Inside My Table #95 | Excerpt
Drinking, Golfing, Giving
I hope you like this single-subject issue on drinking. It’s a new direction for us. We put our toe in the water first with last year’s August-September issue, which had a suite of stories on cheap eats. It was followed by our October-November edition with its collection of articles on restaurant service. Neither of those issues used up as many pages as this one does on its subject, however. This time we’ve tried to stitch the whole issue together editorially with round-ups and listings galore. I think you’ll especially enjoy the “What Houstonians Imbibe” boxes. I only wish we had room for more of your responses.
The editors would like your feedback. Do you prefer this narrow single-subject approach? Or do you prefer our usual generalist way of reporting on the Houston food world. Email me at teresa.byrnedodge@my-table.com.
Coming soon: We are in the process of completely (and I mean completely) revamping the My Table website and SideDish e-newsletter. Give us a couple more weeks. It will be worth the wait.
Watch out, birds, rabbits and other small animals! The My Table Golf Tournament is coming on Monday, June 7. We’re playing at the Wildcat Golf Club, and we invite you to come help fund the newly formed My Table Endowment at the University of Houston’s Hilton College. We’re raising scholarship money for students in the restaurant, hotel and beverage fields. But a warning: If you take golf quite seriously, this might not be the tournament for you. This will be a fun day, with lots of folks representing Houston’s restaurant industry. Hushed spectators? No. Great food, wine, spirits and beer? Yes! Even if you don’t play golf – like me – come out anyway. You can sponsor a hole, volunteer (always dreamed of driving a golf cart?) and spend the day with some of Houston’s best people.
Finally, please keep the Haitian people and the aid workers in your thoughts. Please be as generous as you can afford.
